BairesDev alternatives in 2026 for nearshore and senior engineers

BairesDev alternatives as of 22 October 2026: Revelo, Howdy, Near, Toptal, Arc, Lemon.io, Gun.io, Andela, Deel, Remote and a studio, by price and terms.

Key takeaways

  • BairesDev doesn’t publish rates or minimums, and says its engineers cost 30% to 50% less than local hires.
  • Revelo, Howdy and Near place Latin American engineers and publish more about price than BairesDev does.
  • Toptal adds $79 a month to unpublished rates; Arc lists freelancers at $15 to $110+ an hour.
  • Deel and Remote list employer-of-record plans from $599 a month for hiring a developer directly.
  • Choose the model by who will direct the engineers day to day, then compare written quotes.

The best BairesDev alternatives depend on why you’re looking. If you want a smaller senior team that owns delivery, look at Gun.io or a product studio. Toptal, Arc and Lemon.io fit better when you need one vetted contractor to manage yourself. Revelo, Howdy and Near also place Latin American engineers and publish more about price. Andela draws on talent in 135+ countries, and Deel or Remote (remote.com) can employ a developer you’ve found.

BairesDev sells nearshore engineers, mostly from Latin America, through staff augmentation, dedicated teams and outsourced projects.1 Its pages don’t publish rates or minimums, and say its engineers typically cost 30% to 50% less than the fully loaded cost of a local hire.

9io wrote this comparison and is one of the options in it, so we also say where we’re the wrong choice. Facts come from each company’s own pages. BairesDev’s site wouldn’t load for us, so for its facts we used the Internet Archive’s most recent copies of its pages, from September and October 2026. Figures such as “top 1%” are the companies’ own claims.

BairesDev pricing, rates and engagement models, from its own pages

BairesDev describes itself as a US company, headquartered in California, that has built software with Latin American engineers since 2009. It says most of them are in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico and work their clients’ hours. It claims 4,000+ engineers, and says it hires fewer than 1% of the 2.5 million-plus people who apply each year.2

Its FAQ separates three models by who runs the work.3 Staff augmentation adds engineers whom you manage. A dedicated team is a self-managing pod with a BairesDev project manager and Scrum Master, working to your priorities.4 With software outsourcing, BairesDev owns the project, from discovery and a signed service level agreement through to handoff.5

BairesDev pricing isn’t published. Its pages say cost depends on stack, team size and scope, and that exact rates depend on role and seniority. The claim it repeats is a saving of 30% to 50% against the fully loaded cost of a local hire.23 Contracts are with a US entity under US law.5 We found no published minimum, trial or IP assignment terms. Teams typically start in about two weeks, or up to four for larger ones.2 It fits a company that needs several engineers or teams on US hours and doesn’t mind getting a price from a sales call.

BairesDev alternatives compared side by side

The table compares ten BairesDev competitors and alternatives as of 22 October 2026. “Not published” means we couldn’t find the figure on the company’s public pages. Start times are each company’s own claims.

Near Recruiting for a direct hire, or staffing Latin America Fee not published; salaries published Pay only if you hire Shortlist in under 5 days You set the salary
Deel or Remote Employer of record 130+ (Deel) or 90+ (Remote) countries From $599 per employee a month Month to month at Deel Not applicable The EOR holds the employment contract
9io Product studio The people are named in each proposal Hourly; each person’s rate in the proposal No retainer; 30 days’ notice at a month boundary Usually within a couple of days of a proposal Client owns the work as it pays

Only Arc publishes an hourly range for talent, Lemon.io a starting rate, and Deel and Remote their EOR fees. For the rest, compare written quotes for the same roles.

A smaller senior team that owns delivery: Gun.io or a studio

Sometimes a nearshore pod is more than the job needs, and you want a few senior people who own a product through to production.

Gun.io’s About page describes a delivery-first engineering guild whose senior experts audit the work against your plan, and says Gun.io takes full responsibility for the result.6 Its homepage lists engineers in the Americas, Asia and Europe.7 Its FAQ still has you working directly with the developer, on retainers priced on each profile, usually after a one-time block of hours.8

9io is a product engineering studio, a small team of senior engineers with a fractional CTO, a designer, a product manager and QA. We build products, keep them running and bill only for the hours we work. Each proposal names the people, their hours and each person’s rate, with no management fee. We invoice twice a month for work already done, and 10% of each invoice waits until you accept the milestone. Code lives in your repository from the first commit.

A studio is the wrong pick if you need 20 or more engineers within weeks. BairesDev says it can add two engineers or twenty, and we’re a small team.2 It’s also the wrong pick when you want one engineer to direct yourself.

One vetted contractor: Toptal, Arc and Lemon.io

For one senior engineer in a team you already lead, a vetted network is quicker to set up than a nearshore firm, and you keep the management.

Toptal charges $79 a month once you proceed with matching, and prices talent at a fixed weekly amount it doesn’t publish.910 A trial of up to two weeks isn’t billed if you’re not completely satisfied.

Arc is the most open on price, listing freelance hires at $15 to $110+ an hour.11 Its terms, last modified on 31 August 2026, give the client the work once paid for in full and leave supervision to the client.12

Lemon.io places contractors from Europe and the Americas, with a prepaid minimum of 160 hours.13 Its AI engineer page starts senior engineers at $55 an hour, and its terms charge $20,000 if you hire a developer directly.1415 Our Toptal alternatives post covers these networks in more depth.

BairesDev vs Toptal

Toptal fits one person in a role you’ve defined and direct, with a trial you don’t pay for if you’re not satisfied. BairesDev begins with a discovery call, staffs whole teams, and supplies its own managers on its dedicated and outsourced models. Neither publishes talent rates, so ask both for a monthly price for the same role.

Companies like BairesDev that publish more pricing: Revelo, Howdy and Near

Revelo, Howdy and Near also place Latin American engineers who join your team and take direction from you, and each publishes more about price than BairesDev does.

Revelo offers a two-week trial in which you pay only if you’re happy, month-to-month terms, and one monthly invoice for salary, benefits and payroll.16 Its calculator’s default example puts a top-tier senior full-stack engineer at $134,000 a year all-in, about $11,200 a month. Its terms give the client new IP and let either side leave on 30 days’ notice.17

Howdy places full-time engineers in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru, and can act as the employer of record.18 It says 85% of the total cost goes towards the professional and 15% is its fee, with no minimum commitment. Its calculator example puts a front-end UX engineer at $120,000 a year, fee included.19

Near (Hire With Near) recruits for US companies hiring in Latin America.20 It doesn’t publish its fee, but it publishes salaries, such as $4,500 to $6,000 a month for a mid-level software engineer.21 You can employ the hire yourself and pay a one-time placement fee, or have Near run payroll for one monthly invoice per hire.

None of these is a BairesDev rate, but they help you read a quote. Lemon.io’s rate index puts the median senior developer in Latin America at $40 an hour in Q3 2026, counting what developers earn rather than what clients pay.22

A different region or time zone: Andela and the global networks

BairesDev’s teams work US hours. If yours is in Europe, Africa or Asia, look wider.

Andela hired its first engineers in Lagos in 2014 and now counts talent in 135+ countries.23 It claims 17,000 certified AI-native engineers, available inside your team or as a managed team, and sells AI data work and training.24 Its pricing page is a contact form.25

Toptal says most of its experts are in the Americas and Europe, and Arc offers global teams with help entering Latin American and Asia-Pacific markets.926 Either way, ask which hours the engineers will work.

BairesDev vs Andela

Both offer staff augmentation and managed teams, and neither publishes prices. BairesDev covers general software engineering with engineers who work US hours. Andela’s pages concentrate on AI engineering for large companies, drawing on talent in 135+ countries.27

How to hire Latin American developers directly through an employer of record

If you’ve found the developer yourself, or through Near, you don’t need a staffing firm in the middle. An employer of record (EOR) employs the person in their country on your behalf and runs payroll, tax and benefits. It doesn’t screen candidates or direct the work.

As of 22 October 2026, Deel lists its EOR from $599 per employee a month, in 130+ countries, month to month.28 Remote lists its EOR from $599 a month in 90+ countries, with 15% off the first year for startups up to Series A.29 At $599 a month, the fee adds $7,188 a year to the developer’s pay.

If the developer came through a provider, check the direct-hire fee first. Lemon.io charges $20,000, Revelo at least $10,000, and Arc and Gun.io 20% of first-year salary.17128 BairesDev doesn’t publish one.

Nearshore staff augmentation or a product studio: who owns delivery

The two models differ in ownership, management and billing.

Nearshore staff augmentation Product studio
Who owns delivery You The studio, against milestones you accept
Who manages the engineers Your own leads The studio
How billing works Per engineer, often monthly Varies; at 9io, hourly per named person, invoiced twice a month
What you need in-house A lead with time to direct engineers Someone to set priorities and accept milestones
Stronger at Adding many engineers quickly One accountable team for a product

Staff augmentation works when your engineering lead has more work than people. Without such a lead, a studio or an outsourced project like BairesDev’s takes on the management, and its price includes that. Weigh it against your own time as well as other firms’ rates.

How we compiled this comparison

  • 9io wrote this comparison and is one of the options in it. We don’t quote our own rates.
  • We read each company’s pricing, FAQ and terms pages on 22 October 2026. For BairesDev, whose site wouldn’t load for us, we used Internet Archive copies of its pages from 2 September to 15 October 2026.
  • Acceptance rates, start times and savings are the companies’ own claims. We haven’t hired through these providers or measured their speed, prices or quality.
  • Review sites list rate bands and minimum project sizes for BairesDev. We kept to its own pages here.
  • Prices change, so check the linked pages before you sign. Naming a company implies no relationship with it.

Questions to ask any nearshore provider before you sign

Ask each shortlisted provider the same questions, in writing.

  1. What is the all-in monthly price for each named person, and what does it include?
  2. What minimum team size, term or spend applies, and how much notice ends the contract?
  3. How long is the trial, and do I pay for trial hours if I stop?
  4. Where do the engineers live, which hours will they work, and are they employees or contractors?
  5. Who directs the work day to day, and who answers for a slipped milestone?
  6. When does the IP become mine, and will the repository and cloud accounts be in my company’s name from day one?
  7. What does it cost to hire an engineer directly, and how long does any non-solicitation clause run?
  8. For AI features, how will model outputs be tested before each release? Our guide on how to hire AI engineers covers those questions.
