- Deel and Remote both start their employer-of-record plans at $599 a month and cover Nigeria and Kenya.
Andela alternatives fall into a few groups, and the right one depends on what you wanted from Andela. Toptal and Arc suit one vetted engineer you’ll manage, and publish more of their terms. BairesDev and Revelo staff Latin American engineers on US hours, Turing sells embedded AI engineers to enterprises much as Andela does, and a product studio such as 9io takes on delivery. Deel and Remote can employ an engineer you’ve found, and AmaliTech and ProDevs offer other routes to African engineers.
Andela itself now centres on AI engineering for large companies, and publishes no rates for its engineers.
9io wrote this comparison and is listed in it, so we note where we’d be the wrong pick. Every fact about a company comes from its own site, and headline figures are the companies’ own claims.
Andela pricing and services in 2026, from its own pages
Andela hired its first six engineers in Lagos in May 2014 and has been fully remote since February 2020. Its About page lists talent in 135+ countries, 650+ clients and 200,000+ technologists trained.1
Its engineers join your team, or Andela deploys a fully managed team to build AI systems. Alongside them it sells AI data work, from annotation to fine-tuning and RLHF, and training for your own staff.23 A separate product assesses how well a company’s engineers use coding agents.4 Andela claims 17,000 certified AI-native engineers and says it is building the largest source of AI engineers for Fortune 500 companies, though its customers also include unicorns and start-ups.25 It suits a large company that wants many AI engineers, plus training and data work from one supplier.
The pricing page is a form that asks whether you want staff augmentation, managed services, training or a mix, then books a discovery call.6 The only price we found is an assumption in a training ROI calculator, $2,000 per learner for a blended agentic engineering course.7 Minimums, start times and the client contract aren’t published. A help-centre summary of the contract Andela’s engineers sign gives each new client engagement a 15-business-day trial, and says their work belongs to the client or Andela.8
Andela alternatives and competitors compared side by side
Nine alternatives sit beside Andela below, as of 26 October 2026. “Not published” means the figure isn’t on the company’s public site, so ask for a written quote. Start times are the providers’ own claims.

Hire remote AI engineers one at a time: Toptal and Arc
For one more senior engineer in a team you already lead, both networks say they can show candidates within days.
Toptal charges a $79 monthly subscription once you go ahead with matching, and bills talent at a fixed weekly price it doesn’t publish.9 The trial runs up to two weeks and isn’t billed if you’re not completely satisfied. Toptal says it admits fewer than 3% of its 200,000+ yearly applicants.
Arc shows its range up front, $15 to $110+ an hour for freelancers, with most of its developers at $60 to $100+. A full-time placement costs 20% of annual salary.10 Freelance hires get a risk-free trial of up to two weeks, and under its terms of 31 August 2026 you own work once it’s paid for in full.11
Andela vs Toptal
Pick Toptal for one contractor in a role you’ve already scoped, with a trial you only pay for if it works out. Andela fits better when you want several AI engineers, a managed team, or training and data work from one supplier. Toptal’s experts are mostly in the Americas and Europe, by its own account, and Andela’s talent spans 135+ countries. Neither shows talent rates.
A nearshore team on US hours: BairesDev and Revelo
Latin American providers build their offer around US working hours.
BairesDev, a US company headquartered in California, says most of its 4,000+ engineers live in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and elsewhere in Latin America, and work their clients’ hours.12 It offers staff augmentation, dedicated teams and outsourced projects, says it can form a team of any size in 2 to 4 weeks, and quotes no rates. Its claim is a total cost about 30% to 50% below an equivalent US hire.13
Revelo is more open. You trial an engineer for two weeks and pay only if you’re happy, then go month to month on one invoice for salary, benefits and payroll.14 Its calculator’s default example, an elite senior full-stack engineer, costs $134,000 a year all-in, about $11,200 a month, and its average time to hire is 14 days. New IP belongs to the client, and hiring an engineer directly costs at least $10,000.15 Our BairesDev alternatives post covers more Latin American firms.
Companies like Andela for enterprise AI work: Turing
Turing is the closest match to Andela’s current offer. Its About page describes data, evaluations and reinforcement-learning environments for frontier AI labs, claims “9/9 frontier labs”, and mentions agentic AI systems for Fortune 500 companies.16
Clients hire engineers through Turing Intelligence, which claims the top 1% of AI-native engineers, first profiles in as little as 72 hours and a no-risk trial of unstated length.17 Its forward-deployed engineers build agents that run on Turing’s own control plane.18 Prices, minimums and IP terms aren’t published.
Andela vs Turing
Both sell AI engineering to enterprises without publishing prices. Turing’s About page presents it first as a data provider to AI labs, with enterprise engineering second, while Andela sells engineers first and wraps data work and training around them. Turing names a time to first profiles, and Andela doesn’t. Andela’s training and its coding-agent assessment reach further into the team you already have.
A smaller senior team that owns delivery: a product studio
Embedded engineers still need a lead on your side to direct them. Without one, buy delivery, either from a managed team such as Andela’s or BairesDev’s, or from a product studio.
9io is a product engineering studio whose senior engineers work alongside a fractional CTO, a designer, a product manager and QA. We build the product, run it afterwards and charge only for hours worked. Plans start at $5,000. A proposal lists who would work on it, for how many hours, at what rate each, with no management fee on top. Invoices go out twice a month for finished work, and 10% of each is held until you sign off the milestone. Code sits in your repository from the first commit, and work usually begins within a couple of days of an agreed proposal.
Look elsewhere if you need a big team within weeks, since 9io is a small team and BairesDev says it can form one of any size in 2 to 4 weeks. For one engineer you’ll manage yourself, Toptal or Arc is the better route, and an EOR covers someone you’ve already found.
Published prices, and employing someone directly through Deel or Remote
Published figures let you price a month before any call. By our arithmetic, 160 hours of an Arc contractor at $60 to $100 an hour costs $9,600 to $16,000, against about $11,200 a month for Revelo’s all-in example. The roles differ, so use these sums to check quotes.
An employer of record (EOR) becomes the legal employer in the engineer’s country and runs payroll, taxes and benefits, while vetting and daily direction stay with you. As of 26 October 2026, Deel’s EOR starts at $599 per employee a month in 130+ countries, month to month.19 Remote’s starts at $599 a month in 90+ countries, with 15% off for 12 months if you’ve raised no more than a Series A.20 At $599 a month, the fee comes to $7,188 a year on top of salary.
Read your old provider’s contract before hiring anyone you met through it. Andela’s talent contract summary bars its engineers from working directly for a client for 12 months after a project, so raise conversion with Andela first.8 Revelo’s direct-hire fee starts at $10,000, and Arc charges 20% of first-year salary.
How to hire African developers without Andela
Andela’s roots are African, and a research note it published on 21 October 2026 says it still has one of the largest developer networks on the continent.21 Two companies and the EOR providers offer other routes.
AmaliTech is a consulting and technology services firm with 500+ people in Germany, the US, Ghana and Rwanda. It trains and employs engineers in Ghana and Rwanda, who build web, mobile and AI software for clients.22 Its managed-services teams are dedicated to one client and, it says, work within 0 to 2 hours of Central European time.23 It reports ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certification and publishes no prices.
ProDevs, founded in 2020 and based in Lagos, recruits in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa and now the UK.24 It charges 10% to 15% of first-year salary for a direct hire, 20% of salary when it employs the person for you, and 5% capped at $500 a month to run payroll for someone you found.25 Its public terms cover only its freelance projects portal and leave ownership of the work with the talent, so write an IP assignment into any contract.26
To employ someone directly, check the EOR’s country page. Deel offers its EOR in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and Rwanda.27 Remote lists it for Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and Egypt, but only contractor management for Ghana and Rwanda.28
Lagos is on UTC+1 all year, five or six hours ahead of New York depending on US daylight saving, so a 9-to-5 day there overlaps two or three hours of an East Coast morning. Nairobi is two hours further ahead. Andela’s research note puts experienced engineers in Lagos and Nairobi on $20,000 to $48,000 a year, citing salary surveys, before any provider’s fee.21
How we compiled this comparison
- Disclosure: 9io wrote this post and appears in it as an option. Our plans start at $5,000, and our hourly rates aren’t published.
- We read each company’s pricing, FAQ, terms and help pages on 26 October 2026. BairesDev’s site showed a bot check, so we used its Internet Archive copies of 29 September and 23 October 2026.
- We haven’t bought from these providers or timed them, so engineer counts, acceptance rates, savings and start times are as each company states them.
- We left out review sites and other firms’ “Andela alternatives” lists.
- Prices move, so re-check the linked pages before signing. Being named here implies no partnership or endorsement.
Questions to ask Andela or any alternative before you sign
Send these to each provider on your shortlist and compare the written replies.
- What will each named person cost per month, all in, including any platform, management or training fee?
- Is there a minimum headcount, term or spend, and what notice ends it?
- How long is the trial, and are trial hours billed if I stop?
- Where will each engineer work from, and how many hours will they overlap with us?
- Who sets the engineers’ priorities each day, and who is accountable if a milestone slips?
- Does IP pass straight to my company, and from what date?
- What does a direct hire cost, and how long do non-solicitation or non-compete terms run?
- For AI features, who keeps the evaluation sets, and how are model outputs tested before each release? Our post on how to hire AI engineers goes further.
